Homecare Services - Overview of Program

The Homecare Department provides three services:

  • Homemaker
  • Home Health Aide
  • Chore service

Homemakers do light housework and laundry, grocery shopping and meal preparation. They visit clients to do the needed tasks as assigned. Last year 201 clients received 19,318 hours of homemaker services.

Home Health Aides do personal care, such as bathing and grooming clients. Home Health Aides must have pre-service training and pass a certification exam. They are required to have eight hours of inservice training a year.

Chore service provides heavy housecleaning, such as window and wall washing, carpet shampooing, and extensive kitchen and bathroom cleaning. Clients are usually served only once per year.

These services are funded by Summit County Department of Job and Family Services (Title XX), the Area Agency on Aging (PASSPORT, Care Co-ordination) and the City of Akron (Community Development). United Way also provides some funds for emergency services as well as supplemental funding.
