Day 3: Job Applications here we come…
Prospective employee need to fill in employment history for the last ten years unless you want to emphasize a particular job. How you fill out an application is a test to see how neatly, creatively, and consistently you (the job seeker) can fill it in. Remember to read carefully and to answer exactly what you are asked. This is just the beginning of a long list of ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’.
Primarily, job seekers must learn to look at the entire process of filling a position from the employer’s point of view -- what does the employer want to know about the job seeker? If you don’t have all the information needed to fill out the application, such as your former employers’ addresses or phone numbers, you need to learn to do computer research so that you can get this information. If you really cannot obtain the information, put ‘n/a’, which stands for ‘not applicable’ or ‘not available’. Don’t leave any space blank!
Follow up:
Other items we discuss include: how to dress for the interview – most important: shoes must be clean and polished; grey or navy blue suit okay for most office positions. If you are in a health-care field or maintenance profession, you will want to wear a spotless, pressed uniform or work pants and shirt, and again shoes must be clean and polished.
Don spends a great deal of time and effort on getting attendees to understand that they must be able to do computer research and be able to fill out an application online (anyone who attends Job Club can use the Resource Room at Mature Services, which includes having someone who works there help you learn computer basics). You’ve got to be able to check-out the company to which you are applying for work, the same as they check you out.
If you parted from a job in anger, you’ve got to get that anger out – whether the end of the job was your fault or the company’s fault is not relevant. You as a job seeker cannot be seen to be an angry person and you can NEVER say anything bad about a previous employer no matter the circumstance. A few attendees have a really difficult time with this and, I think, we will be revisiting this topic many times.
Credit Cards and Identity Theft were topics for the remainder of the day. Yes, these items can impact your job search. A couple of tidbits: If you have more than five credit cards, some employers will not hire you. If you have had a bankruptcy, it NEVER goes away, but you have the right to file an amendment to your credit report so that it will be made part of your credit report file. This amendment should explain the reason for the bankruptcy – medical bills are a common reason and some employers will take the reason into account.

Good read: headline catchy, good points, some of which I have learned along the way as well (humility, grace, layoff the controversial stuff). Will share with my colleagues at work as we begin blogging from a corporate perspective. Thanks!

Thanks a lot for providing individuals with remarkably splendid chance to check tips from this web site. It can be so good and, as well, stuffed with a lot of fun for me and my office acquaintances to search the blog at least 3 times every week to study the newest tips you have. Certain 3 points in this article are in reality the most beneficial we have all ever had.
